AN INTERNATIONAL PERFORMANCE EXCHANGE
The Internationalists, in partnership with The Lark Play Development Center and The City Parks Foundation are proud to present the work of one of Mexico City’s most exciting theatremakers. Performed in repertory with the English translation and the Spanish original, Alfonso Cárcamo’s Decomposition will be presented in 3 unique venues in Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx.

The translation of DECOMPOSICION was commissioned and developed at the Lark Play Development Center, New York City, as part of the U.S. – Mexico Playwright Exchange Programâ€.
About the story
2 mexican men, 2 different social classes, 6 fist fights, 9 bottles of Sol and Indio Beer, 2 Cohiba cigars and 1 friendship.
Carlos and Francisco are friends. In eight years their life ambitions will make them enemies. Alfonso Cárcamo's play dissects the nature of two individuals willing to do whatever it takes to have the life they desire ---even if it means the ultimate sacrifice. Performed in Spanish, English and French the plays brilliance is compounded by its pervasive humor, moments of grace and a fascinating structure in which the two actors go in and out of character talking with the audience.
About the Collaboration:
Internationalists founding member Tamilla Woodard joins Seres Comunes founding member Alfonso Carcamo in this collaboration between artists in Mexico City and New York City. Traveling from the Bronx to Queens to Manhattan, Decomposition will be performed in Rep with the English and Mexican Companies.
Seres Comunes is a performing collective, made up of multi discipline artists , whose main interest is to create works that explore theatrical possibilities in non conventional spaces experiments with formats that create a close relationship with the audience.
Playwright:
Alfonso Cárcamo (Mexico City, 1974) Actor, playwright, and director. His work as a playwright led him to receive the fellowship for young creators in 2004 awarded by the National Fund for Culture and Arts (FONCA). His plays have been showcased in the most renowned Mexican festivals. Since 2006 he has experimented, both as a writer and director, with the idea of mounting plays in unconventional spaces. He is founder and artistic director of Salas de Urgencia and company member of Seres Comunes whose mission is to create plays that can be performed in any venue, be it a living room, a basketball court, school or theatre and that challenge the intimate nature of the theatrical. His projects have been subsidized by the Mexico City Cultural Secretary. He is a member of the Internationalists.
Translator:
Mariana Carreño King: As a translator, Mariana has worked for the Criterion Collection, MTV, Conill Advertising, Avon, and New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA), among others. She has also translated into English the short story collection Loves that Kill by Mexican writer Rosa Beltrán (with a grant from NYSCA) and co-translated the play Underground Fantasy for a Woman and a Violin, by Iona Weissberg. Mariana’s plays include Ofelia’s Lovers (as part of Mabou Mines Residency, 2007-2008 and 2008-2009), Rare Encounters (as part of the Hispanic Playwrights in Residency Lab at Intar, HPRL, 2008), Darkroom and The Wake (NewWorksLab, 1996 and 2007), Fool’s Journey (finalist, 2001 O’Neill Playwrights Conference), Two Minutes in the Lobby, Waiting for the Post Office to Give Birth to Time and Dessert Stories, (Labyrinth Summer Intensive Retreats and at the Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, among others venues). Her short plays, Pitahayas (finalist, 2003 Actors Theatre of Louisville’s Heideman Award), Night of the Cat-Sitter, Clowns and Static have been presented at The Public, and The Milagro Theatre.
About the sound:
Arthur Henry Fork will improvise a live series of sound sequences that may point to or even away from the action that is taking place. With the use of an electric guitar whose sound is run through an electric platform and mixed in real time with everyday Mexico City life, Fork deconstructs and exposes the different atmospheres that the play evokes.
